TKO Raises Over $6,000 for Kicks for
Cancer

The
TKO Premier Soccer Club of Kalamazoo participated in The Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society’s Soccer Kicks for Cancer program in an effort
to support the Society’s mission to cure blood cancers,
and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Soccer Kicks for Cancer is a youth soccer fundraising program
offered by the Society in partnership with Michigan State Youth
Soccer Association. Over the last 3 years the program has raised
more than $100,000 for blood cancer research and patient services.
TKO players collected pledges and donations for
their “2000
Touches” on the ball between September 5 and September
19, 2006.
On Tuesday September 19, the Club came together to perform their
final 200 touches.
The club players and parents were joined by The
Lyttle Family of Battle Creek; Rachel, with her mom and dad,
Patty and Russ.
Rachel is 3 years old and is a recipient of services from the
LLS and is one of the Society’s Local Honored Heros.
The Club raised just over $6,100 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society.
The U13 boys’ team did a tremendous job of raising $1445.
Other teams to raise over the $500 mark and earn a Hungry Howie’s
Pizza Party were the U16Girls ($993), U14Girls ($676), U13Girls
($620), U18Girls ($560) and the U11Boys Blue ($506)
The individuals who collected at least $200, in donations, and
will be receiving a Kicks for Cancer Hoodie were: Toni Guillot
$325 (U18G), Danielle Melgar $310 (U13G), Zach Richards $225
(U12B), Anna Hoard $220 (U14G), Spencer Birch $200 (U13B), Matt
Carl $200 (U11BB), Ryan Howser $200 (U13B), Lindsay MacMillan
$200 (U14G) and Jeremy Shane $200 (U13B).
All participants will receive a pair of Shoe Bands.
This is the first year TKO Premier Soccer club has participated,
as a club, in a community service event.
